About Me

Kit Pope

MSc PGDip BBus MBACP

I’m a qualified and registered Integrative Counsellor and Psychotherapist. This means I’m trained and experienced in a range of well-researched therapy styles and methods which I can draw from to tailor an approach to suit you best. I work flexibly and collaboratively with you.

I use a client preference scale which I developed by combining knowledge of human personality and preferences and therapy styles. We explore this together at the start of therapy and return to it throughout so that our sessions are designed around your unique needs and preferences.

I’m registered with professional bodies in both Australia and the UK and abide by their ethical guidelines – the Psychotherapy and Counselling Federation of Australia (PACFA) and the British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists (BACP).

My qualifications and experience

I have studied people’s behaviour, emotions, and inner worlds for my whole adult life. I hold postgraduate university qualifications in Counselling and Coaching, and in People Development as well as a degree in Human Resources and Communication.

I am further certified in Internal Family Systems (IFS), Emotionally Focused Therapy for couples ICEEFT, Emotion Focused Therapy for individuals AIEFT, and Systemic Coaching and Constellations. I’m British Psychological Society Level A and B accredited and qualified in numerous personality (psychometric) tools.

I worked in the corporate world in London, specialising in learning, leadership development, and executive coaching. As a counsellor I’ve worked in private practice and in crisis support with Samaritans and Shout and the mental health charity Mind.

As a psychotherapist and counsellor

I offer couples and individual psychotherapy to adults. I welcome clients from all walks of life and appreciate the beautiful diversity of being human.

I specialise in supporting clients with ADHD and have a particular interest in working with relationship and attachment difficulties, grief and loss, and anxiety and panic, although I don’t limit my work to these areas.

I have helped clients with a wide range of issues including:

  • anxiety
  • panic attacks
  • depression
  • relationship crisis (including recovery from betrayal, coercive control, and partners with addictions)
  • attachment and relational patterns
  • grief and loss
  • transitions (including parenthood, career, menopause, caring responsibilities, health, and moving countries)
  • emotional overwhelm and dysregulation
  • high sensitivity
  • living with neurodivergence
  • sexual and intimacy challenges
  • childhood trauma
  • sensory sensitivity
  • poor self image and low self esteem
  • disordered eating
  • fears and phobias
  • psychosis (including delusions, hallucinations, and dissociation)
  • destructive patterns
  • identity issues (including gender, family, and cultural identity)
  • self harm
  • suicidal feelings
  • sleep difficulties.

If any of the following areas apply to you, I recommend contacting a therapist who specialises in the relevant area because specific therapy styles have been found to be most effective with these issues — addiction, disordered eating, personality disorder, and PTSD (post-traumatic stress disorder).

As a person

Originally a Queenslander, I lived in the UK and US for 20 years and returned to Australia in 2022. I’m happiest by the sea and love whales. I travel as often as possible, surround myself with music, and I love to learn.
